Whimsical wonderland featuring the Margo
Thank you to Hunter Fan for sponsoring this post.
I am on cloud nine with both of my girls finally having their rooms done. It’s been a labor of love transforming my oldest daughter’s room but I can confidentially say we nailed it. Of course, to me, the final touches are all in the details. The curtains, the artwork, and fixtures have such a big roll in making a room what it is, and in this case, our lighting was 100% it.
The lighting was never really being avoided in this room, but was more of a challenge of what fits the space…and the aesthetic…duh. Haha. While my youngest daughter has a full on chandelier in her room, her room also doesn’t get hot so there’s not a need for a fan. Big girl’s room on the other hand does get hot. We played with the idea of luxury and added a chandelier style and while it’s pretty, it wasn’t practical.
Here comes the beauty that saved us! Installing the Margo from Hunter Fan was literally what pulled the whole room together. I had my daughter look through their whole catalog of styles and she literally did a little gasp when seeing the Margo and said, “Mom! That’s the one I want!”. Definitely a girl after my own heart here because what eight year old gets excited about fan?! I may be biased on this being the best fan because at the time we chose this fixture, my sweet baby niece was born and she is also a Margo. Absolutely meant to be!
As far as installing the actual fan, I did it myself. My method is to lay everything out, place it in the order it’s installed, then read the instructions a handful of times. Learn from my mistake of how terrible it is to have to take the whole ceiling fan apart because you missed something in step one! Personally, I am comfortable with working with electrical but do not recommend if you are not. However, if you are a hand gal or guy the installation was very straight forward. This is the first actual Hunter Fan I’ve had for our home and it was far easier than any other install I’ve done myself.
Some of my favorite features, aside from the quality, are the lighter toned blades, and the glass cover element. It really tied in the whimsical style we were going for but also has that modern look to where in the future if we decided to do another makeover there would be no issue! If you ask my daughter her favorite feature she would say the remote because she can press the buttons in bed.
Something extra to share that has made this particular makeover so fun has been working alongside my eight year old. She has really struggled to figure out what her style is because she’s still so little but also wants to feel grown up. Over the years her room has always been change with paint and nothing more because she didn’t know how to express herself in her room. Little sister asked for a new room and got it, and I truly think that’s what pushed my eight year old to envision her space.
The only control I had in this space was cost of product and if I could execute it. I was just there to make her dream happen while she truly did everything herself. She picked out the wallpaper, she picked out the paint color, she asked for the extra trim detail. While talking together it was so cute because she would add small comments of, “maybe like some velvet curtains that are white but just maybe.”.
When it came time to picking the fan, I pulled up the choices on my computer and scrolled with her and she chose it herself! It was the cutest thing seeing her so excited for something I would normally get excited for. It made my heart happy hearing her talk about how the wood on the fan arms would look so good with the flowers on the wall. When I installed the light she kept saying, “It’s so cool that I have a mom that can do this.” For me, it was a full circle moment as I had the joy of my parents letting me decide how I wanted my room and were always so supportive of it.
