sick toddler must haves
There is notttthing worse than when your baby is sick. In just two years, we’ve dealt with Laken having the flu, about 100 colds, strep throat, and most recently we’ve dealt with RSV. We could have gone through so much worse than what we have, but regardless, it still sucks.
It has totally been trial and error with us figuring out what Laken likes and holy crap I’m not sure what I would do without all the fun gadgets they have now! With a new baby on the way and finally have some sense of direction with everything, I figured I’d share a little fun must have for sick toddlers that has seriously saved us so many tears!!
If you’ve followed along on Instagram I shared a little bit about Laken having RSV. We ended up having to go to the ER because she had fallen to the ground twice within a thirty minute period to catch her breath. I always said I wouldn’t be that mom that took their kid to the ER for a cold but it was a Saturday night and I really didn’t care anymore. Six hours later, we find out she has RSV pretty dang bad. Little fun fact….there’s nothing that can help cure RSV other than time. On Sunday I told Kyler that we needed to go to the store to get some things to help her breath and as I checked the mail before leaving for the store (I had no time to check it Saturday) we had a whole box of goodies that FridaBaby sent us! It was a freakin miracle!
So in this little goodie box from them was their BreathFrida Vapor Bath Bombs and the Breathe Easy Kit! I seriously did not know that either of these things existed which just goes to show how many more goodies there are being made to help our little sick babes out. When I was going to head to the store I was planning to pick up some special nose wipes and some vapor rub to put on Laken’s chest and both of those plus vapor drops for a bath/diffuser were in there.
We swear by the Nasal Aspirator by NoseFrida and any baby shower that I get invited to I will always gift this item because it has saved our butts so many times. When Laken was super little we would use the Saline Spray a couple times a day with the Nasal Aspirator and I felt like I was getting just as much out as what they could at the doctors. I’d be so lost without these two things within her first year of life. The aspirator is also really easy to clean and after we cleaned it we would give it to Laken to play with(when she was younger) so she wasn’t as afraid of it and I think that helped a lot.
I feel like I have totally mastered bath time with Laken being sick because sometimes it’s the only thing that will calm her down. However, those vapor bath bombs made a world of difference and I think we will have back stock of them forever. We use bathtub crayons, bathtub paints , and our personal favorite color changing bath fizzies! Anything that makes a mess to keep her preoccupied has saved us. I have a facial steamer that I’ll sit on the side of the tub and let run while she plays and she loves that thing because it’s something that mommy uses.
I would try to make things fun for her and we would make pedialyte popsicles (I know the make them but the off brand bottles were sooo much cheaper than the already made popsicles). I got popsicle molds and let Laken do all the pouring. I also have made pedialtye slushes which is just pedialyte put into an ice cube try and then we blend them all up and serve it in a cup with a straw. We get real fancy over here!
I know this post isn’t a whole lot of must haves but it’s what we use for us and it works. I’d love to hear some of your favorite sick day to-do’s that help keep your little babe happy!
