Our half bath design board
I am over staring at our outdated half bath! It’s small and desperately needs some love and I am incredibly confident that both the hubs and I can tackle this one 90% ourselves.
Design boards are so incredibly helpful when deciding on a plan for a room. It also helps when keeping track of the overall cost and then also the color scheme! If you are wanting to create one, I recommend looking into Canva. I do all of my design boards and graphics on their site.
This makeover in particular isn’t going to be a super fancy one. We’re sticking to the basics because we do plan on selling this home within the next two years and I don’t want to invest a lot in to it. I also want to add that we live in a town home and we have done a lot of updates in the home and we are afraid if we do too much we will out-price the area when it does come time to sell. As much as we want to go all out we have to keep that in mind so we can get the most $$ back.
Ideally, I’d like to keep the cost of everything under $500 which I think can be easily done (not adding in the floor as that’s a whole different project we will get to). Our half bath measures at 2’8″ X 6’8″. We have room for a vanity and a toilet and that’s about it. Below are what the bathroom looks like right now. REAL fancy
It obviously all has to go and we plan to keep the toilet and that’s about it. The biggest thing in this bathroom is that nothing is centered. I know at the time this bathroom was built that the corner vanity was everything, but it truly has no underneath storage because you can’t get around the pipes.
And here is our design board!
Just imagine how beautiful our half bath will look after this upgrade!! The best thing about this is the pedestal sink. I’ll cover so much more when we do an actual reveal post but our overall goal is to maximize the space in this area and then have it feel very calm and open. We (I) really want to stick with neutrals in this little room and have all the metal accents be gold. Gold to me is incredibly soft compared to black or a dark brass. The walls will of course be Behr’s Barely Brown that we have across every room in our entire house and then the floors will hopefully be the laminate wood flooring in a similar shade. We have five different types of flooring on our main level so this is a big project that I hope to share with you all when the times comes!
The biggest thing in this bathroom is that we’re sacrificing what little storage is there for more floor space and we almost have to with how small the area is. We physically can’t find a vanity with storage that wouldn’t stick our 2+ inches from the door frame when you walk in. The wall depth is 16″ and almost all vanities stick out 18.5″. The pedestal sink at the most will stick out .5″ which is much more reasonable with all the space around it. If you’re thinking why don’t we just get another corner vanity…just know the thought has crossed our minds but they are incredibly expensive. My idea to make up for storage under the sink is adding a small basket on the floor by the foot of the pedestal sink and have it filled with toilet paper. But we will see when the time comes!
