My top 5 mascaras + my go-to mascara primer
I have been loving having more dramatic lashes lately and I can’t for the life of me apply false lashes. So, the next best thing is some good mascara! I’m sharing my top 5 mascaras with you all today and my newest trick to getting those long lashes.
Starting off is the primer that helps to enhance what lashes you already have. To show you a little before and after of the drama it adds, check out the cover photo for this post! Of all the products I own, this is the one product I will never not have on hand. Take it from someone who refused to try a lash primer (for years) because I thought it was a waste of money and pointless if mascara would just cover it up. This beauty is the Lancome Booster XL Lash Base.
When you really think about it, your lashes are hair and need attention just like the hair on your head. We wash and condition and add yummy products to our hair to keep it strong and healthy. This primer essentially does the same thing. It does go on white, which I love because I’m able to see exactly where I put it. Right after applying I go straight for my mascara to achieve the most volume. What I have found that works best is doing one eye at a time and applying the primer, then the mascara asap. The duo that I’m currently using is shown above.
the mascaras
Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes – You all know how much I love me so Charlotte Tilbury. This isn’t my all time favorite but it does fall in my top five because of the formula. I can’t say enough about the formula. The only reason it’s not my all time favorite is because of the brush size.
Benefit They’re Real – I haven’t met a single person that doesn’t like this mascara. It’s a very simple formula that gives awesome lift and length.
Smashbox Superfan – This is currently the mascara I’ve been gravitating to. I really like the shape of the brush and how it’s rubber. The brush is also rounded at the end and I am able to really get into the corner of my eye and coat everything with it.
Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes – I can honestly say that I haven’t used this mascara in over a year, but I always have one on hand. The volume from this mascara never disappoints.
Stila HUGE Extreme Lash – This mascara really makes your lashes pop. I haven’t tried it with the primer yet so I can only imagine what it would look like after. The only negative thing I have to say about this mascara is that the brush is too big for my liking, but with how much of a pop it gives I totally don’t mind dealing with it.
*** I’m big on making sure makeup and skincare products aren’t expired so always make sure to replace your mascara every three months. The longer a mascara is used, the more bacteria that can grow. If you ever feel like you have an eye irritation or do develop an infection, toss out the mascara and sanitize your products. I always like to mention to not pump your mascara. When mascara is pumped, air is making its way into the tube and that air will dry the product out quicker. Most people that pump their mascara deal with flaky, dry mascara and it can all be prevented! 🙂
