My Sunday Skincare Routine
Sunday is starting to become one of my favorite days of the week! It’s the day that I get the house completely clean and ready for the rest of the week. It’s the day that I get caught up on laundry. It’s the day that I stay 100% away from my computer and phone, or at least attempt to. It’s the day that I’m fully committed to my family. And lastly, it’s the one day that I go all out with spoiling myself and give myself a much-needed mini facial.
I am absolutely obsessed with skincare so being able to talk about it and share my routine with you all is so fun! I did a whole post over my My Skincare Routine which has a lot of similar products that you’ll find me talking about here. Since that post I have also added a lot to my routine. This will be a lengthy one as I feel it’s necessary to go over why I used each product and the benefits of it. Let’s get to it!
. . .
The first thing I do is use a pre-cleansing balm. I don’t think this is necessary but I do think it’s really important if you struggle with breakouts and are more prone to getting clogged pores. I actually use the Dermalogica Precleanse Balm every night but I use do a more thorough cleanse of it on Sunday. The Precleanse Balm has oil in it which helps to really break down makeup and to help breakup any makeup/dirt. It is mean to be used before a face wash so you can get a deeper and more thorough clean.
After the Precleanse Balm I go in with my Murad Acne Clarifying Cleanser. I have used this cleanser for years. I think I’ve been using it since high school, so about 6 years, and I love it. I have always struggled with acne and have tried numerous cleansers but always go back to this one. This particular cleanser has 1.5% salicylic acid which is a stronger amount. The average cleanser has .5%-1% and the highest that is allowed in cleansers is usually 2%. It’s super interesting reading about salicylic acid and if you also struggle with acne and need some insight, check out this whole post here written by FacingAcne.
After the cleanser I’ll do a focused deep exfoliation on the areas that I tend to get the most clogged pores or am breaking out the most and the places I have the most texture. I’ve been using the Kate Somerville Skincare ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment two-three times a week and on non-Sunday days I use it all over my face. This cleanser is a little stronger than a regular exfoliate and you can read about it here.

Anytime I exfoliate, I spray a toner on my skin. The coolness of the spray puts me skin at ease and feels good haha. I honestly use it because I was always told that toners are incredible to use if you do get acne, but I also use one throughout the day over my makeup if I need a cool down or feel like I need to be refreshed. I prefer a spray toner and have been using the CoQ-10 Toner – Indie Lee but just recently switched over to Balancing Force™ Oil Control Toner – OLEHENRIKSEN and have been loving it.
After the toner I go in and double exfoliate using the Michael Todd Beauty Total Refresher 3-in-1 Microdermabrasion System. This is one of the big things in my skincare routine that really make it seem like I’m at a spa. The Microdermabrasion System can be used on dry to wet skin. I prefer my face being a little wet and I usually spray a very generous amount of toner onto my face before. This device has suction and uses a diamond tip to help exfoliate dead dull skin off, leaving your face fresh and super smooth. I have been told by a few estheticians that double exfoliation is perfectly safe for the skin as long as it’s used in moderation. I do it once a week and have absolutely wonderful results from it.
From here I’ll go in with a serum and I use the Dr. Dennis Gross – C+ Collagen Brighten & Firm Vitamin C Serum. I was actually switching up my serums for a while before finding this one so I haven’t been using it long, but I have noticed a huge difference! This one pretty much does what it says. It brightens and firms and I love that It has Vitamin C in it. A serum is an absolute must in my every day skincare routine but even more so in my Sunday skincare routine. I apply a serum right after the microdermabrasion system because my skin is very fresh and face serums are lightweight moisturizers that penetrate deeper to deliver active ingredients into your skin.
I always lock my serum in with a thick moisturizer. I alternate between Peter Thomas Roth – Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream and the Dr. Dennis Gross – Ferulic + Retinol Anti-Aging Moisturizer. Both of these moisturizers are very thick, which is what I love, but they also both do something extremely different which is really nice on my skin. On days that I feel like my skin is super dry I’ll do the Cloud Cream and on the other days I’ll use the Anti-Aging with Retinol. I would say the use of each of these is 50/50 and it’s not necessary to have two moisturizers but I like having the option.
The best way I can explain my reasoning is after a long day in the sun I’m usually wanting to throw myself in an freezer form being so hot and feeling dehydrated and thats the same for my skin. The Cloud Cream has 30% hyaluronic acid cream that transforms atmospheric vapor into fresh, pure water, providing your skin with a continuous burst of intense hydration that lasts up to 72 hours. While the Dr. Dennis Gross moisturizer is a bit stronger and has Ferulic + Retinol in it which really helps to target fine lines and wrinkles. Retinol makes your skin sun sensitive the following day which makes it nice to have that balance of the two.
After I use my moisturizer I go in with one of my favorite tools ever, the Nurse Jamie UpLift Facial Massaging Beauty Roller. I will actually be doing a whole blog post with all the benefits of using a facial roller and why everyone should start doing it so be on the lookout for that! But this is where having a thick moisturizer comes in handy. I will usually spend a good five minutes after applying moisturizer and roll my face in all difference directions! The facial roller helps to get the nutrients from the serum and the moisturizer deeper into my skin but also help to push out any extra fluid that might be building up under my skin. I use my facial roller every night in my skincare routine for 2-3 minutes but really take my time with it on Sunday!
I’m almost done with my skincare routine at this point and go in with the Origins – Ginzing™ Refreshing Eye cream to Brighten and Depuff. I also really enjoy switching up my eye creams but have recently only been using this one because it brightens. My favorite type of skincare products are ones that brighten. Kyler also uses this one because he gets tired eyes really bad. What sets this eye cream apart from others is that this one has ginger in it which is a natural energizer and it’s absolutely fabulous for your skin. I not only put this under my eyes but I also bring it up and on my brow bone. I have noticed a drastic difference in my eyes when I do this.
The last tool I go in with is the Dr. Dennis Gross SpectraLite EyeCare Pro LED Device. Although I also use this one every single night, using it with my Sunday routine is a must. Red light therapy is incredibly beneficial to our skin and is a targeted FDA cleared procedure to help in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. This LED mask only covers my eyes and helps to target the lines that from between my eyebrows and in my crows feet area.
I also plan on making a blog post entirely dedicated to red light therapy and why it’s so amazing. It’s more recently been popular and it’s not just for our faces either. There are actually spas that use red light therapy over the whole body. It’s incredible for recovery after a workout and it’s overall amazing for our skin. I don’t want to spill too much so be on the look out for a post soon!
I can’t forget about my lips!!! Last but not least I’ll go in and use the Laneige – Lip Sleeping Mask. I have only used this product for a month but honestly think every single person needs it. I got my Kyler hooked on it!! It is the most hydrating lip treatment I have ever used and my lips feel so full and soft 24/7. This lip mask is 100% thicker than most chapsticks and that is truly what makes the world of difference. I love falling asleep with this on and waking up and my lips feeling extremely moisturized. I forgot it once and woke up feeling like Spongebob when he asks for water haha.
. . .
I absolutely love my Sunday skincare routine and highly encourage you all to take extra time for yourself one day a week when it comes to your skin and to really focus on it. You don’t have to have all he fancy devices either. When putting on moisturizer, use a little more than normal and give yourself a mini massage with your own hands. YouTube has so many incredible tutorials that show how to give a facial massage if you need help. I promise spending a little extra time on your face will pay off. My skincare routine isn’t for everyone and that’s okay. I love investing in skincare and trying out new products! It has to be one of my most favorite things to do! I can honestly say there is no greater compliment than being told you have pretty skin. 🙂
