My go-to self tanner
When in doubt apply some self tanner! Seriously. It’s like a quick fix when you’re not feeling yourself on a gloomy day or feel like something is off. Lately, I’ve been in the blues (more so frustrated) with my appearance and I get like this especially in the winter! Throw in my pregnancy hormones that are adding the cringy red tint to my hair and I’m feeling like a hot mess!
Like I said, I get like this every winter and I could not be more thankful for how far the beauty world has come with products. I use to be a huge fan of tanning beds and would totally over do it during the winter. I’m talking about I’d get so tan that I would like ten years older. Nobody wants that. It has been years since I’ve stepped foot in a tanning salon, and what a wake up call it has been since finding out how to achieve that same tan a healthier way!
It has totally been trial and error with tanning products. I would consider myself more on the fair side. Looking at my skin tone I wouldn’t necessarily think that I am, but oh my goodness it is a nightmare finding tanning products that don’t turn orange on me. I really stepped my game up with products within the last year and can’t wait to share them!!!
The first self tanner I have to share is actually my absolute favorite and it’s the St. Tropez Bronzing Water Mousse . I love St. Tropez tanning products as it is because of their tanning mousse shade range but I literally was blown away to see a clear formula. My biggest reason for buying the Water Mousse in the first place was 100% because we have white bedding and there’s zero chance of transfer. I also wear a lot of white and can apply this self tanner and then immediately put on a white shirt and not have any transfer from my arms or neck.
What sold me was how it developed. I had no idea when it developed it would look so natural. Like all the other self tanners, you usually aren’t the shade that it oxides to and when you take a shower that extremely dark color will wash off. With this, there is no shade that comes off when showering. The shade that the Water Mousse self tanner oxides to on your skin is the shade you will be from that application. Of course like a lot of self tanners it does say to apply another layer within so many days to extend the tan. I have done this with the Water Mousse and it does deepen my tan but I honestly prefer the single application. Since I am fair I don’t want someone to look at me and instantly know that I have self tanner on which is why the Water Mousse is so perfect. I can see the change in my color and I don’t look like I went to Fiji for a week (one can only dream).
I apply this self tanner once a week and usually apply it on a Monday morning and will rinse it off that same night. If I have big plans on that Saturday or Sunday I’ll do another application on Wednesday morning. Again, rinsing it off that night.
Some other self tanners that I use and love:
This is the Gradual Tan Everyday Pre-Shower Tanning Mousse from St. Tropez. This is my I’m too lazy to really apply self tanner self tanner haha. It’s meant to be used every day and is quick! It’s definitely the easiest self tanner I’ve ever had to apply because you apply it, let it sit for ONE minute, and then hop right in the shower to rinse it off. I really liked wearing this during the summer after I got a good tan to help extend it.
Would it really be a Kendra blog post if I didn’t talk about my fav brand ever?? Dr. Dennis Gross makes Alpha Beta Glow Pads for the body and they contain Vitamin D. I think these are super similar to the Kate Somerville Tanning Towlettes except they aren’t as nourishing as the DDG Glow Pads. I don’t use these that often but always have one in my purse just in case and will pack a few in my suitcase when we go on trips.
I haven’t used this one but it’s currently sitting on my bathroom counter. I’m very intimidated by oil mists and I couldn’t tell you why haha. This is the Coola Sunless Tan Dry Body Oil Mist and is more of a natural tanning product. I may give this a try within the next few weeks and keep you all updated in my Instagram stories. If you want an update make sure you’re following me here. I bought it because I have heard nothing but incredible things about this brand and have seen a ton of bloggers use the Coola Sunless Tan Face Serum. If I end up loving this oil mist I’ll for sure be giving the face serum a try.
