My everyday makeup routine
About a week ago I asked you guys on my Instagram story if you would prefer my skin care routine or makeup routine and it was a tie! I haven’t decided yet if I’ll be breaking up my skin care routine in two sections for AM am PM, but I will hopefully have that up for you Monday! I plan on getting back to 3 blogs a week and I appreciate all of your guys’ patience as I try to figure my life out. lol. Now for the post!
I grew up a MAC girl and have been spoiled with makeup ever since. I love makeup! I love it so much that I actually started a YouTube channel with makeup tutorials! I absolutely loved making those videos but all of my tutorials started looking the same and I decided that it wasn’t for me. I’m 100% a matte brown smokey eye gal. I love venturing out to try new looks but I guarantee you I’ll be back to my smokey eye the next day lol.
I’m very stuck in my ways with my makeup routine so what you’re about to see are the products that I use every single day. What you’ll probably notice is that I don’t have a setting powder anywhere on here. I used to use one everyday to set my foundation and concealer but I ran out of it and just never repurchased it!
Primer
I go between using Elizabeth Arden’s Flawless Start Instant Perfect Primer and Smashbox’s Photo Finish Primer Water. It truly depends all on how my skin is that day and what I’m doing. If I know I’ll be inside most of the day or have an important appearance for work I usually stick with Elizabeth Arden’s. If I’m going to be outside most of the day or am in a quick hurry I’ll go with the Primer Water. I also stick to the Primer Water if I feel like my skin is really dry as it has a little bit of hydration to it.
Foundation
I have the worst luck with finding a foundation so when I find one that I like I stick to it. These two are my tried and true babies. Both are a full coverage foundation and I get an incredible amount of compliments on how smooth my skin looks when I wear these too! Getting complimented on your foundation is honestly the best feeling haha. The Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation is a beauty guru favorite. I wore it on my wedding day and had no flashback from the pictures and my face looked flawless all night. The Nars Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation has more of a dewy finish to it and feels very light on the skin.
If you are someone who has troubles finding a foundation to match I totally recommend checking these two out. Nars has a wide variety of shades to match even the trickiest of undertones. Most Estée Lauder counters have a color match machine gun that matches you to your shade. It’s pretty cool!
Concealer
I am very loyal to my concealers. Just recently did I open up to try a new one but it didn’t make the cut haha. I have three concealers that I have in my bag. I think it truly all depends what I’m doing that day and how lazy I am haha. My absolute number 1 concealer that I will have on hand at all times is the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer. I have used this concealer since Tarte launched them, which I think is a little over a year ago. I love the formula and how smoothly it blends out on the skin. I know it’s also a huge beauty world favorite and if you haven’t tried it, you are missing out, big time! When I’m not reaching for my Shape Tape I’ll grab the Maybelline Concealer. I have used this one on and off for years. For it only being $8 it’s a really good concealer! The third concealer is the Bare Minerals BarePro Concealer stick. This baby is fullllll coverage. When I am having a rough day or am going someplace that I know I need to look real good for I’ll use this. Bare’s concealer stick will hide the darkest of secrets and the biggest of bags. The only downfall not this concealer is that it’s so thick and creamy that you have to use a brush to blend it out. A beauty blender is not going to cut it!
Bronzer
So my bronzer is actually a blush! This is the MAC Powder Blush in Harmony. There is absolutely no pink to it and it also works really well as a contour color. Because I am so fair this color works really well for my skin tone. Most bronzers look either really orange on me or really muddy. This is my second one and I’ll probably be sticking to this product for a while.
Blush
I used to never wear blush. I struggled because I couldn’t find one that went good with my skin. If I were too pink of a blush it will really wash me out and make me look sick or like a doll. This one here is the Bare Minerals Bare GenNude Blush in Call My Blush. Something that Is really cool about this blush is that because it is in the GenNude collection, it will look good on every single skin tone. I actually really like all the blushes in this collection but this is the one that stands out the most to me, on me.
Highlight
If I only had to use one product out of my makeup bag for the rest of my life it would be this. I have been using MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Highlighter in Soft & Gentle since high school. I have been using this product for almost 8 years. I can’t even tell you how many I have purchased over the years but I will forever be repurchasing it. Other than as a highlight, I use the on my brow bone, as an inner corner eye highlight, and even sometimes on my eyelid with a little Fix + spray to make that shine pop!
Eyeshadow
Eyeshadow palettes are the only thing I will switch up when it comes to my every day routine. I have a whole post coming over my top shadow palettes! As I said above I’m a matte brown smokey eye kinda gal and this TooFaced Natural Matte Palette does it all. For as long as I’ve used this palette you’d think I would have hit pan in every color but this shadow is so pigmented and blends so well that you really don’t need a whole lot for your look!
Mascara
At all times I have more than one mascara in my makeup bag. For the past year these three have been the ones I use everyday. I like volume and length and all three of these amplify my lashes like crazy!!! TooFaced Better Than Sex Mascara is a beauty favorite by so many! I love how dramatic my eyes look after I use this one. The Clarins Supra Volume Mascara gives volume but also very evenly coats each last. Lastly, the Smashbox SuperFan Mascara. It gives the most length in my opinion. It has a rubber applicator that gets all in the base of your lashes
Eyebrows
Who doesn’t use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz?! It’s an all time favorite of mine! I prefer more of a natural look with my brows over the super filled in brows. I use it every single day and have been for years. If I don’t go out with a full face of makeup on, I at least have my brows on.
Finishing Spray
Lastly, the finishing spray! MAC Fix + is my absolute favorite! Now I don’t think setting spray is an absolute must in a routine but I love the feeling of it and do think some foundations last longer with it. Super random and a few of you will know what I’m talking about but MAC products smell so good. Throughout the day I’ll even spray myself again just for the smell haha.
I have quite the collection but am always up to try new things. I’d love to hear what your favorite products are!
