my current haircare product favorites
I have been using the same products on my hair pretty religiously these last sixish months and my hair feels better than it has in a long time. I’ve been getting asked a whole lot about what I’m doing differently with my hair and I really can’t think of anything I am doing differently other than I found what works for me! I still am constantly trying out new products to always stay in the loop with haircare but for the most part these are the products I find myself grabbing on hair washing days.
I do want to say that I don’t gravitate towards one line more than others, although these photos will make it seem otherwise lol. I base a lot of my products that I decide to use on myself on how they work on my clients. Everyone’s hair is sooo different and when I see a product that transforms more than a handful of people’s hair I get super curious about what it would do on me!
*******A lot of the products I’m mentioning are part of the Sephora Spring sale! Starting May 2nd all Sephora Beauty Insiders get 10% off their purchase! You can shop the sale HERE.
First off, my shampoo and conditioner. I use the bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible oil Shampoo and Conditioner. I swear this is what has made my hair as touchable as it is. I should say that I wash my hair once a week (maybe twice if I have somewhere special to go). I have naturally wavy hair and I get highlights done so my hair lacks in moisture. My favorite part about these two products is that it has a UV protectant. Which means my hair is getting protected from not only the sun but also harsh chemicals in the air and any harsh indoor lighting.
I would be lying if I said I ONLY used the bumble and bumble shampoo and conditioner. I keep these three products in the shower at all times (yes, our shower is a hot mess). Because I don’t wash my hair very often all these products last me a long time. I haven’t had to replace any of my bottles since getting them all around six months ago.
Matrix Total Results So Silver Shampoo – This is the purple shampoo I will use to help get rid of any unwanted brassy tones that may pop up in my hair. I have been using this shampoo a little more frequently than normal because my pregnancy hormones has my hair growing in red and it’s not pretty.
Brocato Cloud 9 Restoring Shampoo – I had a really bad highlight done over a year ago now and my hair is still suffering from it and on days that I feel like my hair really needs some love is when I’ll use this restoring shampoo. If you have damaged hair this is a miracle in a bottle. It also smells like absolute heaven.
Living Proof Restore Mask Treatment – There is such a thing as using to many restoring products so I don’t use this as often because I use the Brocato Shampoo instead. This mask is wonderful and I will only leave it on the allotted time. The only downfall of this mask is that I don’t feel instant relief when I rinse it out. However, I see and feel the results once my hair is dry and styled.
Now I’m going to touch base on all the styling products that I use on my hair while it is still wet. My product choice is based off of what my hair needs and what I can do to help repair the damage that happened over a year ago.
bumble and bumble Thickening Spray – This is the first thickening spray I have ever used and liked. My hair certainly doesn’t need a whole lot of thickness, but I have so much hair that I feel it drags around my face and that is were I use it most. The best part about this thickening spray is that I could pour the entire bottle on my head and you wouldn’t be able to tell I did. You feel absolutely nothing left behind from it and for someone who doesn’t wash their hair on the daily I don’t want to be able to feel the product.
bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer – This is a leave in primer that also acts as a heat and UV protectant. It adds moisture, helps eliminate frizz, and is made for dry to very dry hair. I don’t have super dry hair, but because I do have a slight wave my hair needs all the moisture it can get.
Moroccanoil Mending Infusion – This is the only product that I haven’t used the full six months like all the others. I think I’ve been using it for about three but I notice a difference when I use it. You can look at this as a “split end mender” but if you have split ends, there is no mending them. Cut those babies off and start using this stuff! I often use this on my hair dry and get the same results as when I do it on wet, however, I feel like I’m getting a whole lot of extra protection when I use this before blow drying. This stuff really helps in smoothing the ends down. The ends tend to get fluffy on their own over time and this will help to calm them and to make sure that they’re hydrated! Our ends are the oldest hairs on our head and they need just as much attention as the rest of our hair does.
Moroccanoil Treatment – If you know about this product, then you know how amazing it is. This is more than an oil and actually helps heal the hair from the inside out. This is a product that does its thing over time and does not show instant results. This is fully a healing product and doesn’t add a coating to trick you into thinking there are instant results like some products. I have actually been using this product for years and after a long day in the sun I’ll lather my whole body in the oil. It’s super hydrating and our skin soaks it up. You also smell super yummy after.
Last but not least, all the products I use on my hair dry!!!! I was also going to add in hairspray and dry shampoo, but I have an entire blog post up next week being dedicated to those two things specifically. Just know that even on my freshly styled hair I still use dry shampoo and a hairspray on top of these products.
Moroccanoil Perfect Defense – This is a heat protectant!!! I also use this on my hair when it’s wet before blow drying but a lot of the time I will let my hair air dry and use it more on dry hair. This heat protectant is one of my absolute favorites!!!! You can’t feel any bit of it in your hair after spraying and I am obsessed with it. It also protects hair up to 450deg (not that any tool of ours should ever reach that). The best part of this is you don’t have to keep reapplying the product. If I were to spray this in my hair before blowdrying I wouldn’t have to reapply it before using my curling iron.
Living Proof Dry Volume Blast – This is the god of all volume/texture sprays. Holy goodness it is amazing and a reason it’s so popular. I use this after styling for ultimate body throughout my hair. You don’t feel the grit, you don’t see the grit, but you have major body and that’s all that matters. The only downfall with this product is that I can’t use it every single day up until I have to wash my hair because I start to feel it, which is why I also have another volume spray that I use.
Moroccanoil Dry Texture Spray – I truly like this product. It’s very lightweight on the hair and can be built up. It does do the exact same thing as the Dry Volume Blast only taken down a few notches.
