Making Christmas Ornament Cookies with Laken
Happy Friday and Merry(almost) Christmas!!! I totally meant to get this post up in the beginning of December but completely forgot about it so here we are!
I struggled big time finding activities that I could do with Laken that she would actually have fun with and when putting the ornaments on the tree I ran across my homemade cinnamon ornament that I made in 1999 (yes, I still have it and it still smells heavenly) and thought that would be the perfect activity! Laken loved it! So, here is a super simple cinnamon and applesauce recipe that you can make with your little ones that they can enjoy year after year on the tree!
(Just scroll past the photos for the recipe 😉 )
Ingriedents:
-3/4 cup applesause
-2 bottles of cinnamon(2.3 oz each)
Other needed items:
-Cookie cutters
-wax paper
-ribbon or some sort of string for hanging
-something to punch the hole for hanging
-Instructions:
-Preheat oven to 200 deg
-Mix applesauce and cinnamon until dough is formed (I ended up having to kneed a little bit towards the end to really get everything stuck together)
-Use 1/4 of the dough at a time and rolling it into 1/3-1/4 thickness between two sheets of wax paper
-cut desired shape with cookies cutters
-put on a non stick pan (or place foil down) and bake for 2.5 hours. The thicker the dough the longer it will have to back. Some of our pieces were a little thicker than 1/4 and I ended up having to bake them for 3 hours.
-Let cool for 15-30 minutes, string, and hang!
