Laken’s Room tour with Lorena Canal Rugs
I have always said that Laken’s room is my favorite room in our home. Other than it literally being the only room in our whole house that is complete, it’s a room that I will forever hold dear to me. So many giggles, snuggles and cries have happened in this room. It has become a safe place for Laken. It’s the room she runs to play and read books in. It’s the first room we went to when we came home from the hospital and had our fur baby meet our first baby. I catch myself standing in the doorway staring at her room way more than I should. It’s so beautiful to me. I can’t wait to share with you all about each item we decided to put in her room and the final touches we added that tied her whole room together.
Before I get into the post I want to talk about the coolest piece we added to Laken’s room. The area rug!!!!!! I don’t usually get excited about area rugs but this rug is far different from any other. The top one being that it is 100% machine washable. Isn’t that amazing?! I consider that a total mom win. Lorena Canal makes the most beautiful and most cozy area rugs specifically for kid’s rooms.
Lorena Canal uses the best of raw materials and all natural dyes for their rugs. If you want to learn more about Lorena Canal Rugs you can find it here. Our rug is the Lorena Canal 4×6 Berber Beige and I loooove it. I’ve recently become a decor swapper and am always switching up the rugs and pillows in all the rooms. So far there hasn’t been room this rug doesn’t look good in. I’ve also washed ours twice now and it comes out looking even more beautiful. All the fringe stays in place and there isn’t any unraveling of the rug.
Now for the best part….her whole room!
Laken’s favorite part of her room is the teepee. I wanted a way where we’d be able to hide the toys but still make it cute. The toy bin is from target and the bins themselves are very deep. I love it because it has a little shelf area on top and we keep all her books there. There’s also a picture of Kyler and I in there from Laken’s first birthday. She likes to point at us and show us the baby in the picture. The inside is very spacious! I can comfortably sit in there with Laken and play/read a book.
The number one comment/question I get when people see her room is about the birch tree wall and what theme we decided on. To keep it short, we chose birch trees because we were originally told Laken was a boy up until about 32 weeks and had a very subtle woodland theme in mind. I wanted an accent wallpaper wall but wallpaper is honestly stupid expensive and we were on a budget. I seriously have the best mother-in-law because she came down and painted that whole wall. She spent around 7 hours on it and pictures don’t give it justice for the amount of detail that was put in it. The day we move will truly be heartbreaking because I can’t take that wall with me. The rest of the room we went with creams, whites and grays (Behr Paint in Tin Foil)to keep it fairly neutral.
Fun fact: When I found out we were having a girl I literally cringed at the idea of having any pink in her room. I hated it. I never wore it. I didn’t own a single item that was pink! It’s so funny looking back at that because now I gravitate towards pink items. These pink velvet curtains were a surprise find at TJ MAXX and I’ve linked similar ones here.
In my last post where I featured Laken’s dresser which you can find here, I got questions asking why I had giant glass candle holders on top of her dresser and a glass lamp base on her side table. Laken has no interest in getting close to those things. There’s a glass jar on the dresser that holds all her binkies(everyone needs a binky jar) and a small candle which are the only things she gets close to touching. We never light the candle..haha it’s simply there for the aesthetics. Since I don’t ever touch them she doesn’t feel the need to touch them. I got lucky with her never wanting to touch outlets and never feeling the need to pull things off of counters. In other areas I did not get so lucky haha.
The rest of her room is full of small details that really pull her personality in! Because we were working with such muted colors at first I wanted to mess with different patterns and textures in her room. I was super against having any pink because I hated pink but over time I’ve warmed up to the color and like the pops of color throughout.
I’m very minimal when it comes to wall decor. I kept it simple by having a big quote board which fits so perfectly with Laken’s personality. The ‘Girl’ wall quote was a last-minute add and I love it.Laken loves to paint and color and gets so excited when she sees her artwork around the house so I added it to her room.
