Laken’s 2.5 year life update.
My baby is two and a half years old… I get so sad thinking about that but she is my absolute favorite human on this planet and I wouldn’t change a single second I’ve gotten to spend with her.
Laken’s half birthday was actually March 1st. I’ve been in denial about it and have tried to put it off but I know if I don’t do this now, I’ll forever be sad that I don’t have something to look back on. We celebrated today in the best way we know how! We put on lots of lipstick, had a few handfuls of marshmallows and read all the books that had puppies in it!
I am totally jinxing myself saying this, but I feel like we’ve passed the worst of the terrible twos. Now that Laken is more verbal and able to tell us her emotions she’s been a whole lot calmer…or as calm as a two year old can be. We no longer have fall-to-the-floor-tantrums (fun fact: that’s how she chipped her front tooth) but we do have more “Stop it nowwwwww!” or “NOOO!” getting yelled at us. I will totally take getting yelled at over having to take her to the dentist in fear of a dead tooth though lol.
Laken has always been really independent and recently has been asking us to come play with her and it makes my heart so happy. She cares so much about everything and makes one heck of a drama queen! He specialties there include crying on command and even pushing some tears out. We call her out on it pretty quickly and she laughs about it haha. Laken is always asking if Kyler and I are okay and is so concerned when she hears a baby cry. I love how much into emotions she is. That might be weird to say but she is learning the difference between a sad hurt and a mad hurt. When she’s sad she always wants a hug and when she’s mad she has to give herself some time to calm down. Kyler and I have never really been confused on what emotion she is trying to show because her facial expressions say it all. That little gift may kick her but when she gets older lol.
She loves gymnastics and gets so excited when she learns new things. She just learned how to jump onto things with her feet together and that’s a big step for us! She has incredible upper body strength and already has a baby six-pack going on so I think we may have found her sport of choice, but we certainly won’t limit her to what she wants to do. She loves her hair and loves all the girly things. She is still just as obsessed with Gracie as she was when she was a little babe and doesn’t understand why we can’t bring her everywhere with us.
My favorite things that she does is saying, “Bye bye I love you!! Have a good dayyy!”. She says it to the Taco Bell drive through guy, the checkout lady at Target, the doctor, Gracie, the trash guy….literally everyone and it always makes everyone smile. We are so biased being her parents but Laken really is so sweet.
I’ve said this before, but we really are so excited to see Laken be a big sister. At the moment she has zero care that she’s going to be a big sister or have a little sister haha. However, she is constant asking where the baby is. She has no jealous bone in her body(yet) and I know she’ll be in absolute heaven getting to see and hold a real baby whenever she wants.
