I got my lips tinted!
So I got my lips tinted and I love them and I can’t wait to share everything I’ve learned about this process with you all! I’m sure by now you all know how much I love Aestheticare of Lawrence, and lip tinting and microblading just happen to be the specials for the month of March! Shea will be performing the service and she is absolutely incredible.
The intro rate for lip tinting in the month of March is $499. That includes the initial appointment and then the follow-up appointment 4-6 weeks after. This price won’t last long so I would take advantage of it while you can!
You can go to their website at greatskinlawrence.com or call them at 913-800-8909
I have to be real honest with you all when I say two days prior to getting my lips tinted I had no idea what it even was haha. I got a message last minute asking if I would be a model for a lip tinting demo during one of their holiday open houses and of course I said yes!! I trust every single thing any of the girls do so I knew I would be in good hands!
Before I get into the process of tinting and my actual thoughts I want to share what I learned on lip tinting. For one, it’s been around for quite some time and I had no idea. It’s also not a tattoo! I keep wanting to call it that because the process is used with a cosmetic tattoo needle. However, this process is not permanent and doesn’t go as far into the dermis as tattoo ink does. The lip tint lasts anywhere from 2-5 years depending on how the color wears on your lips. Lip tinting is a soft, natural enhancement to your existing lips.
There wasn’t any part of me that was scared thinking I would walk out looking like I was on botched. However, I was very nervous for the color. I had no idea what to expect. I had a hard time imagining what my lips would look like tinted and below were the options I was able to pick from.
If you’re anything like me, you’re looking at these colors and thinking ‘they are so dark‘. Trust me, I was freaking out a little inside because I had a nude in mind and these are not that haha. For me, the end result was a natural tint and because our lips aren’t naturally nude it made it a little easier picking. In this process I learned that the color picked will actually lose 50% of it’s pigment during the healing process. Hearing this eased my mind tremendously so I went with the middle one in the row of three (I can’t remember the name). Shea told me that some women will bring in a favorite lipstick to try to match to. Had I known that I most likely would have brought my fav tube in too!
Like I said above, this isn’t a tattoo but the process is the exact same as a tattoo with needle and ink. The outline of the lips are done first before the shading takes place. If you’ve ever had a tattoo the initial touch doesn’t feel the best and over time you get used to the feeling which is exactly what I felt like this was. The cupids bow area on the top lip was by far the worst area because it’s so sensitive. Not even going to lie..I actually had to stop a few times and sit up because of the pain. Your lips are numbed for 30 minutes prior to all this, but it still hurt pretty bad. It wasn’t the worst feeling in the world but it was pretty dang uncomfortable. The best way I can describe the pain is comparing it to a blackhead or pimple on your lip line and constantly trying to pop it. Once the outline is done the pain is pretty tolerable..at least for me it was.
The biggest thing Shea focused on was making sure that my lips still looked natural. I loved that. I learned that as we age the pigment in our lips start to fade and our lips will eventually blend into our skin color. I wish I had a before picture of this to show but I have a scar in the left corner of my mouth from an accident when I was little that left me with zero lip color. I also had areas of my bottom lip that had very little color left. Since I saw my lips every day this wasn’t something I noticed.
A big question I had during the process was if my entire lip would be colored and if I wanted it to we could have done that, but since we were going for a natural look it was not. It was hard picturing how my lips would look being halfway shaded but I had to keep in mind 50% off the pigment falls off. I also decided to go with getting the natural line of my lip outlined instead of outside of it. If you wanted a fuller lip you could definitely go outside the lip line.
Above are pictures after minutes of me leaving the office. No, I did not get any fillers. My lips were so swollen and I honestly didn’t know how to react. Having that center part untouched really threw me off but I trusted Shae and trusted the process and now love everything about it. This was definitely one of those instances where it looked better with time haha. Within a few hours the swelling was down. Just being real with you all!
The healing process takes a max of 14 days. I felt like I was healed completely by day 8 so it went by fast! Shea gave me a few ointment packs to make sure that my lips were always covered and I applied that stuff religiously. By day two my lips weren’t swollen anymore and it honestly just looked like I had lipstick on. By day three I could feel it starting to peel off (just like a tattoo does) and at that point I felt like I looked like I had lipstick on that was coming off in areas. My lips didn’t look weird and nobody really even noticed them. Heck…I was in a wedding two days after this and my lips looked so good! haha.
Above was day 7 of healing. My lips were a little dry and you totally tell in a few areas. The color is perfect though. You can see a little bit of fading in some areas on my lip line and that is what the follow-up appointment 4-6 weeks is for. Because lips are so thin and always being naturally exfoliated, it’s possible for some of the pigment to be completely gone.
I’m a little irritated with myself because I took photos every day documenting the healing process from my follow-up appointment and can’t find them anywhere. Below is the photo right after I walked out. My lips weren’t as swollen and the outline of my lips were really the only focus.
Do you love it?
Yes. So much. I say that this is the service I never really knew I needed until I saw what a difference it made. I now have the ability to do a full face of makeup (like above) and not do ANYTHING to my lips. I’m aware that I naturally have a really good lip shape and Kyler has even said that it makes my lips look fuller and I love that this has enhanced what I already have. I’ve said it to friends and family more, but I do see myself keeping up with this.
Q&A
who is this service for – anyone!!!
does it hurt – I’m going to say yes on this one. There were parts that didn’t bother me, but there were parts that also had my eyes watering non-stop. I was thankful for the numbing cream that’s for sure.
how long does it last– The tint is considered permanent cosmetic makeup but only lasts around 2-5 years. The color stay will determine how your lips wear over time.
can you still wear lipstick – Yes, absolutely! I very rarely put lipstick on anymore but I do still wear my glosses.
how is the healing process– In my opinion, very short. Healing time is 7-14 days and I felt like mine were healed by day 8.
can you get lip fillers on top of this– Yes, you can still get lip fillers with having your lips tinted. Your lips get pretty swollen since it’s such a sensitive area so I would wait the full 14 days it takes for them to heal before getting anything done. Don’t take my word on this though and be sure to be in touch with whoever does your fillers.
anything we should no before going into this – if you donate blood, you cannot donate for one year from the day of getting the service.
Be sure to mention my name if you set up your appointment for lip tinting. Shea is amazing and you will love her.
