Hospital Diaper bag break down + the daddy diaper bag
One of the many things I’m grateful for when it comes to this pregnancy is how much more prepared I feel, or as prepared as you can get bringing a new little human into this world. I learned so much of what we didn’t need with Laken, what I wish we had more of, and what I should have gotten. This time around I feel soooo prepared when it comes to heading to the hospital which was something I majorly freaked out about with Laken. I honestly think I had three giant duffel bags with me on top of the diaper bag….and Kyler brought a bag of snacks. This time around we kept it really simple. Like really simple and I’m perfectly okay with that!
We live less than ten minutes away from our hospital so it’s not like it would be a huge deal to head home and get something, which I think is exactly what Kyler did the first day with Laken because I kept forgetting things (what’s new?!). Below is a breakdown of everything we have in baby girl’s baby bag, a rough overview of what’s in my hospital bag and then why we have the daddy diaper bag!
Baby Girl’s Diaper Bag
The diaper bag we got was the one I wanted with Laken, which is the Fawn Design The Original in Sand, but money was tight during that time and I promised myself that our next baby I would spoil myself a little. I think the price is fairly decent and I know it’s a bag we will use for years and not just on the girls! Kyler thought I was ridiculous for getting the bag since we already had one from Laken but after he saw it and saw how functional it was he understood why I wanted it. The size of it and the storage inside totally sells you on it! He also said he wouldn’t mind carrying it around which says a lot because he’s picky.
Like I said, we planned on keeping baby girl’s bag on the lighter side. I have multiple outfits for picture purposes and then a bunch of basic things. I’m sure there are things that I will add in last minute but for the most part I’m fairly okay with everything! What you don’t see pictured is my breast pump and all the accessories. However, my hospital provides pumps and storage bags in case needed so we will keep my pump in the car just in case.
Its so crazy to think there will be a little itty bitty baby wearing these clothes! Our outfits all cover the hands and feet so I don’t have to worry about packing little socks or mittens. Our little two piece sets are the Sleepers from Solly Baby. I will actually show more of them on Instagram once I take photos. They are so freaking cute and so dang soft. The bows are Bling Baby from Nordstrom and are some of my favorite bows ever. I only brought one swaddle because I know that she’ll be wrapped up nice and snug in the hospital blanket most of the time. This swaddle is from Little Unicorn and I purchased it on sale so I don’t think they have this particular design anymore. Little babe will be living in the knotted sleepers you see above and that is from Spearmint Baby. The pacifiers are also from Spearmint Baby and are the BIBS Pacifiers.
I really don’t have much to share when it comes to the extra stuff. I know once we are doing our own thing that the items inside the bag will double, but for now because I know the hospital has so much I know we will be okay. We will be packing a few diapers (way more than 4 lol), a pack of wipes, spray sanitizer, pacifier wipes and a stain remover pen. The pen is honestly more for me than baby haha. I love the smell of dreft and know how stubborn spit up can be to get out.
The Daddy Diaper Bag
This is something that we learned was a must 6ish months into having a new baby. The diaper bag we used was my life because it took place of my whole purse which means that I also had the most unnecessary items in it like 10 tubes of lipstick. However, I would use all those lipsticks and knew exactly where they were. When Kyler would use the bag, he would take everything out and place it somewhere random. Between me getting annoyed with him losing my items, he was even more annoyed that I kept putting things like that in there. We also have completely opposite work schedules and when he would need something I would have the bag and vise versa. Hence…why we decided to have a daddy diaper bag. It has saved so many arguments between us and is seriously the most practical thing ever.
Regarding what he keeps in it, it’s the exact same thing that I keep in mine shown above minus all the cute outfits haha. We keep them both stocked up and it helps tremendously when we’re on the go. I keep that bag in Laken’s closet so he always knows it’s there and will probably still keep it there and just make sure it’s extra stocked with little sister’s stuff. I think the extra things he has in his right now are coloring books and a few toys. He wouldn’t let me photograph what he’s actually taking to the hospital because he thinks its silly but I can tell you right now he is not packed and only has snacks in the bag. He’ll be using his diaper bag as his hospital bag as well.
I should also add that Kyler didn’t like carrying our first diaper bag around because it was so girly and would also leave it in the car (I hated that) if he went inside someplace. Now, he has one that perfectly fits his style and I have one that screams me. Kyler actually loved his bag so much that he gifted his brother one and he loves it too!
Kyler’s diaper bag is from Pottery Barn Kids and is known as the PacaPod Picos Pack Backpack and you can find it here.
My Hospital Bag
I learned the first time around that I really over packed. I realized that while we were heading home and I had to carry everything out haha. I truly kept everything super simple this time around. I plan to take full advantage of everything the hospital offers because it’s one less thing I have to worry about. Below is everything I’m packing in my hospital bag minus a few things that I’m still waiting on in the mail which are compression tanks, and a pair of leggings (realized while packing that all of mine were see through lol). I actually plan on doing a more in-depth blog post of what’s in my hospital bag that I’m hoping to get up next Monday as long as she hasn’t made her arrival yet. That post will actually go into detail of what all I’m bringing beauty and haircare wise.
I keep looking at this and thinking I’m forgetting something and there really isn’t that I am. What I don’t have showing are two more pairs of socks, a grungy tee, and of course the leggings and tanks that I’m waiting on in the mail. What I wish I would’ve had the first time was extra phone chargers, my personal snacks, a blanket, and then my makeup and haircare. I didn’t bring anything to fix myself up with Laken because I didn’t think I would have time. There. Is. So. Much. Time!!!!!!
If you are a first time mom and are clueless on what to bring, head to Pinterest and search hospital bag check list. I did this after watching countless “What’s in my hospital bag” Youtube videos. I still overpacked because that’s just something I do naturally haha, but it helped a lot! If there’s something you see there that you want linked, please let me know and I can find it for you! Also, a big thank you for everyone that has been patiently waiting for this post to go live! I hate having issues and hate being late. I adore you all and can’t thank you enough for all the support <3
