Holy Grail Hair Products
I am constantly getting messaged and asked about my hair on how I curl it, what type of products I use, and if I wear extensions. So, I’m compiling everything together in this post about products, brushes, stylings tools, and even hair accessories to help all of you wondering out! 🙂
To clear one thing up really quick…I do not have extensions. Surprise!! I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve been stopped or asked “Is that really all your hair?” or “Do you have extensions in today?”. This is all 10000% my real hair. I. Have. So. Much. Of. It. My hair has never in my life been this long or this thick. I didn’t take any miracle pill for it either. When I got pregnant my hair doubled in thickness and grew like a weed. I wish there was a miracle pill so I could tell you all about it though. I also didn’t lose a single strand of hair after my pregnancy which I know some of you mommas are thinking ‘must be nice’ but I do wish I lost some. I’d gladly give half of my head of hair to any of you! Regarding extensions, I am actually looking into getting some. Call me crazy for even wanting some but because I love braiding my hair I would really benefit from it. I’d have so much more thickness to work with haha! My favorite blogger is Amber Fillerup so I’ve been looking at her hair extension line Barefoot Blonde Hair.
SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER
To be completely honest I wash my hair maybe….MAYBE…once a week. I have to giggle a little bit about it because I’m the worst person to even talk about shampoo with. I do have my favorites though!
Wella Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner – this shampoo smells so good! It’s also color safe and super hydrating. I would totally add this to your shower for the summer! // Joico K-Pak Shampoo – I always have this shampoo in my shower. Since my hair is dry and needs all the love it can get from highlights this makes it feel like silk. All of Joico is color safe so you don’t have to focus on getting a shampoo to protect your color, and instead can focus on what your hair really needs! // AG Boost & Balance Natural Shampoo – I am not a big natural hair care product lover because I feel like it leaves a film on my hair. The vinegar in the balance shampoo helps tremendously in regulating your scalp and the boost conditioner feel and smells amazing. // Klorane Mango Shampoo – you guys…..holy amazing. Stop what you’re doing and get this shampoo because it smells amazing and has incredible benefits to it. // AG Sterling Silver Shampoo – calling all my blondes that hate that yellow or brass, this one is for you! It’s basically an at home self toner. It’s not as strong but it does do a crazy good job canceling out all of that brass.
HAIR MASKS
Keranique Micro Exfoliating Follicle Revitalizing Mask – This hair mask is amazing for anyone who has build up! There are little tiny beads within the hair mask that really scrub the scalp. Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp. // Living Proof Restore Mask – to be honest, this mask isn’t my personal go to hair mask, but I use it on all my clients! Especially those who are suffering from super dry hair and maybe even a little ever processed! // Klorane Mask with Desert Date for Damaged Hair – this is a more natural hair mask that will help repair dehydrated hair. // Klorane Mask with Mango Butter for Dry Hair – I have no words for how amazing this mask smells! I need this smell in a candle haha! // Wella Enrich – this mask is for everyone. It smells amazing and literally leaves your hair like silk. Wella is more affordable and if you’re in the sunshine a lot this summer spoil your hair with this! // Moroccan Oil Restorative Hair Mask – if your hair is damaged and about to fall off this is for you! When my hair was deeply damaged I used this for 5 minutes at a time 1-2 times a week and it did wonders.
OILS
I am very picky with my hair oils because so many of them now are filled with the not so good stuff, like silicone. I at least picked my two favorites for you all because oils add so much good to the hair
Moroccan Oil Treatment Oil – This oil comes in Regular and Light. It’s my secret to a high shine and that soft feel. // Aquage SeaExtend Silkening Oil Treatment – I use this before curling my hair. It adds so much shine and really leaves the hair soft to the touch.
DRY SHAMPOO
Hempz Herbal Instant Dry Shampoo – I actually just started using this dry shampoo and I really like it! It smells very fresh and doesn’t leave behind any residue. // KMS Hairplay Dry Cleansing Makeover Spray – this was the first ever dry shampoo I used. I remember when dry shampoo first became a thing we couldn’t keep these on the shelf at work. // Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk – I would gladly live off of this stuff! Sometimes I think aerosol dry shampoos don’t really distribute the amount of product evenly and this direct powder spray is so fantastic! // Moroccan Oil Dry Shampoo – the smell of this is enough for me to buy it. They have a blonde tones and a brown tones where it’ll help blend your new growth/grey hairs.
TEXTURE SPRAYS
Texture Sprays didn’t really become a thing until a year ago and then it started blowing up! I’m sure a lot of you have seen those perfectly curled hair pictures and the celebs with their effortless beach waves. Well, a big secret is texture spray. I like to call texture sprays ‘body in a can’ because that is their purpose. They give you body and full ness without the feel of a regular texture spray which can really add a gritty feel.
AG Dry Texture Wax – so this isn’t like a normal texture spray but I had to add it. It’s great for men and women with shorter hair! Think of a hair wax but in a can. Kenra Dry Volume Burts – if you saw my Boho Pony hair tutorial you would’ve heard all about this product. This is my favorite texture spray! It adds incredible body and hold without that gritty feel. // Alterna Caviar Style Wave Sea Salt Spray – usually a sea salt spray is really drying but this one keeps your hair soft even when adding body and texture. // Redken Wind Blown 05 – to be completely honest, I’m not a big Redken fan but this product is pretty incredible. It’s a lower hold so it’s not as strong as usual texture. // Moroccan Oil Dry Texture Spray – again, the smell…haha. This texture spray also has a shine in it!
HAIRSPRAY
KMS Hair Stay – this hairspray is super light. I tend to use it before braiding so I can still work with the hair. // Aquage Finishing Spray – this finishing spray is amazing! It’s lightweight and adds a nice shine. // Bosley Professional Strength – This spray is also very lightweight. Also a bonus for anyone that has thinning hair and need volumes as it’s also a volumizer. // Moroccan Oil Luminous Hairspray – The smell really sells itself (I used to use this as a perfume because it smells so good) and it adds incredible shine with a little big of hold. Perfect for something that needs a little hold with a whole lot of shine! // CHI Amplified Volume – This is one of my absolute favorites!!! It gives incredible lift and hold and has that CHI smell I know a ton of people love. // Redken Control Addict 28 – As I’ve said before, I”m not a huge fan of Redken but they do has some good products and this another one of them. This is the highest hold hairspray and strongest! It also has a really even spray with having three holes instead of one. // S-Factor – This hairspray is all shine with a little bit of hold.
HEAT PROTECTANT
I don’t have a whole lot to recommend because I’m really picky when it comes to heat protectants! It’s a very important part of any hair routine if you use heat and style your hair so it’s crucial to really know the product and what all it does. You’d be surprised how much you learn from different heat protectants.
CHI Iron Guard 44 – I feel like this is the OG of heat protectants because everybody knows of it or at one point has used it! I used it for years. It’s a good heat protectant for sure. The only down fall would be that I hated having to spray each strand and I wouldn’t always get an even spray each time, but still very good! // CHI Iron Guard 44 Style & Stay – Yes, these two items are super similar! The only difference is that this one is an aerosol and not a spritz spray and that this one does have a hold to it. // Alterna Caviar Repair Vitamin Heat Protectant Spray – This spray is pretty incredible. It’s packed with so many vitamins and good nutrients for you hair. I use this for about a week or two after I get my hair done because I do get a ton of highlights. // Kenra Heath Block Spray 22 – This spray is also an aerosol and also has a hold similar to the CHI one except the Kenra adds incredible shine!
HAIR BRUSHES
You’ll see that I’ve stuck with two brush brands. Brushes are crucial to hair care. If you are using a $5 Walmart brush that is yanking your hair out, it is time to upgrade! Brushes are an investment big time because the last and I’d rather spend $20 on a good brush that I can use for 3 years than a $5 brush that will break within a few months.
Olivia Garden Ceramic Ion Flex Combo Brush – This brush is ideal or those you love to blow-dry their hair with a brush. This isn’t ideal for everyday hair brushing. You can use it for that, but you’ll notice more tugging. The open slits and the flexibility of the brush was made to give the least amount of tension on the hair. // Olivia Garden Medium Round Brush – Ideal for those with shoulder length hair. The ceramic evenly heats up allowing for a quicker dry time. // Olivia Garden Small Round Brush – Ideal for hair above the shoulder and also has the even heat distribute for quicker dry time. // Olivia Garden Large Round Brush – This brush is my personal favorite. I use it on a ton of clients because of the shine and sleekness you can achieve. I don’t necessarily use it for round brushing either! It still has the ceramic that allows the even heat distribution. // The Wet Brush Paddle Brush – This is awesome for little ones and those with naturally knotty hair. The bristle placement allows for easier detangling and the paddle allows for the water to drain. // The Original Wet Brush – This brush was made to help combing hair a breeze. It’s a quick detangler and gentle on the scalp and hair.
APPLIANCES
Babyliss Pro Ferrari Rapido Dryer – I know this dryer is expensive but it is worth every single penny. My alternative will be listed next, but this dryer is amazing!! I use it in the salon on every client of mine. The drying time is cut down to more than half and the inside of the dryer is actually a motor that is designed by Ferrari. How cool is that?! // Babyliss pro Italo Luminoso Dryer – This one is incredibly cheaper and runs like a breeze. I hate drying my hair at home because it takes so long but I can knock it out in 7 minutes wet to dry with this dryer! It also comes with changeable air filters to allow for a greater air flow. // Brocato Vibra Straight Straightener – The straightener vibrates! It does that so you are less like to get a line from clamping down your straightener on the hair by the roots and allows for heat to evenly spread through the hair. // Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium Prima 3000 Hairstyling Iron – This iron is for those of you who curl with your straightener!! The iron has an even heat distribution allowing for the hair to get the even amount of heat needed to hold that curl! // Babyliss Pro Titanium Ultra Thin Straightening Iron – This iron is longer than most irons and is able to straighten a larger section than what the normal iron can for a quicker straightening session. // Hot Tools 1 1/4 Bubble Curling Iron – This is very similar to how a curling wand works. It’s the same concept, except if you’re wanting a variety of curls this is for you. It’s going to give body and wave all in one allowing you to really get that desired look. // Hot Tools 1 1/4 Extended Barrel Curling Iron – this is my favorite curling iron! I use it almost every time I do my hair because it gives those beach waves that I love so much. It’s also not super big or super small so you have many curl options.
I would love to hear what you favorite products and tools are! I love seeing what others keep in their cabinets and use on the daily!
