hair care for wavy hair
Every summer I try to to give my hair a break from the curling irons and wear my hair natural. Natural to me is a little wave (pictured below). My hair loves humidity and if it looked like this year round I would totally rock it. My hair is getting longer and wearing it natural longer is so much easier than natural short.
Since wearing my hair natural isn’t a permanent thing I personally don’t feel the need to spend a ton of money on a big curly hair routine. I like being able to incorporate products that I use daily and add maybe one or two. The best part about finding what works for you is being able to customize it.
I don’t really have a tried and true product for my waves, since I am constantly trying new ones but I can share the ones I’ve had success with. I want to add that my hair is very processed. I’m a healthy blonde but my hair lacks moisture more than just normal wavy/curly hair lacks so what I do may not work for you! Curls in general need moisture so I find it very important to put as much moisture as possibly back into the hair. I’m big into hair oils, curl refreshers and creams.
Surf Styling Leave in | Keep this in your beach back if you’re having by the lake or pool! This Leave in will help to keep the moisture locked into your hair but will also protect your hair from the sun with it’s added UV protectant.
Verb Curl Cream | I have a special place for Verb products as they’re affordable and do what they say they will. I haven’t used this product as much as I’d like to have but it is a good one. The product is very soft on the hair.
Moroccanoil Curl Defining Cream | This cream is heavier than others so I wouldn’t recommend if you have fine hair. I would mix the cream and an oil together and cocktail the two before applying to my hair but that’s just me. I used it on its own for a long time and loved the results. Of course with the product being Moroccanoil it does come with that yummy Moroccanoil smell!
BB Style Cream |This is the one product I have not used. I add it because I’ve had a lot of clients share how easy this is to use.
OUAI Wave Spray | I love this spray. I use it when I’m getting into wearing my hair natural. I start off small and let my hair adjust before going full force into a cream. The spray is very fresh and lightweight.
BB Curl Pre-Styler Primer | I keep saying curls need moisture, but they really do! It’s a big deal and leave in treatments or primers are a wonderful way to get some of that moisture into your hair. This particular product has a uv protectant in it that is wonderful for throwing in your bag if you’re going to be in the sun. This also helps you to recoil curls and reshape any hair. It works on both dry and wet and on day 2+ it can be used to get rid of frizz.
OUAI Air Dry Foam | Obsessed with this. It like a mouse without the crunch and it’s so weightless you won’t even realize you put anything on. I have been using this for special times because it’s constantly sold out and near impossible to get my hands on.
BB Surf Spray | Need a sea salt spray without feeling like your hair is hay? This is for you. This surf spray is for both straight and wavy/curly hair and helps to give that piece-y beachy look.
Verb Sea Spray | This is another one of my personal favorites. It’s very light weight. It leaves texture without the gritty feel and is very easy to use if needing to touch up.
OUAI Hair Oil | I’m not gonna lie when I say this more on my body than I do my legs than I do my hair. It smells so good and just melts into my skin. I only buy the mini size because a little goes a long way.
Moroccanoil Treatment | I have to include this treatment oil because it will help heal your hair from the inside out. This is incredibly important for curly/wavy hair gals that are trying to repair the moisture in their curl pattern. This oil is worth every penny.
