Growing to love October + keeping clean with halloween treats with Crest
I’m very excited to partner up with Crest for their Halloween Campaign to show how easy and fun it can be to eat your heart our with all the yummy October/Halloween treats and still have fun!
This year is our fist year going trick-or-treating!! Which means candy and a lot of it!!! We’ve only ever been trick-or-treating at the grandparent’s house and Laken loves it because they give her all sorts of yummy treats!! I think we’re going to try to attempt to hit at least 10-15 houses this year. I may be more excited about it than she is but I know she is going to think it is so much fun! I have been trying really hard to get her to say trick-or-treat and she doesn’t fully understand the concept and tends to say “that’s mine?” when reaching for candy instead. That part will be interesting this year for sure haha.
Laken is a total sweets girl like her momma and has an eye for chocolate and all the sour treats. I would so be lying if I said Kyler and I aren’t going to be digging into her candy bag haha. Me being the chocolate lover and Kyler loving his sour candy keeps the candy fighting pretty clean. I find it humors how many parents eat their kid’s candy and Crest took some surveys over just that and here are a few of my favorites:
“Sneaky parents! Over 50% of parents admitted that they snuck a few pieces of candy from their children’s candy stash without them noticing. 34% of parents insisted on “inspecting” the candy, only to hide a stash for themselves. Only 4% of parents reported that they do not eat their child’s candy.”
“Four in 10 adults say they enjoy the holiday even more now than when they were a child. For 37% of these adults, the reason why is because there’s no limit on the amount of candy they can consume.”
I can totally agree on both of those! Something else I can agree on is how important it is to keep our teeth clean through all the sweets. We have been a Crest family for quite some time and are trying really hard to pass our good habits to Laken. Crest makes their toothpaste really personable and it makes it easy for us all to get exactly what we want. I’m a Crest 3D White Brilliance kind of gal, Kyler is a Crest Complete Whitening + Scope Minty Fresh guy, and Laken loves Kid’s Cavity Protection – Bubblegum. Crest took quite a few surveys from candy consumption to healthy brushing habits and I was most surprised at this one!
“Only 48% of adults enforce a stricter teeth brushing/flossing routine on Halloween for themselves. However, 70% of parents enforce stricter teeth brushing routines on Halloween for their Children.”
I was actually really shocked at the percentage coming from adults. Although these are just the results from a survey, I’m really curious to see what an adults every day routine percentage is. Laken watches our every move so I know I don’t want to fall in that category.
For Halloween, Crest put together a little Halloween video pranking kids and it’s really hilarious. I laughed out loud in a few spots!
Now to get to the part that I’m sure a lot of you are seeing from the title… You’re probably thinking She doesn’t like October?? Who doesn’t like October?! And to be honest, it has never been a favorite of mine! Don’t get me wrong, I love the weather and the fashion..big time, but everything else about it didn’t faze me. I had never really been a fan of getting into all things pumpkin spice flavored, going to haunted houses and spending a lot of time at a pumpkin patch. I would go purely for the picture opportunity which meant I was there for 5 minutes tops. I would be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy dressing up for Halloween, because I did, but that was about it!
It wasn’t until Laken was born that I started to really like October. She was born September 1st and although she was only a month old, Kyler and I couldn’t wait to start fall traditions with her! We took her to her first pumpkin patch, we carved pumpkins while she slept and we even dressed her up for Halloween! She was by far the cutest little ballerina!! It was so much fun and every year it gets better and better!
This year has been my favorite so far because of how expressive Laken is. I seriously never know what she’s going to say or how she’s going to react which makes everything that much more fun. This year was the first year I actually decorated our front porch so I had Laken help me pick out all the pumpkins. About twice a day we go outside to rearrange the pumpkins and she sits on every single one asking for a picture. (Totally my child haha.)
Here are some other activities we’ve had a lot of fun doing so far this month:
– Making pumpkin banana bread about twice a week we love it that much. You can find my favorite recipe here.
– Painting pumpkins! This is an absolute favorite of ours. We’ve been painting a little one every week.
– Watching the Nightmare Before Christmas. She doesn’t think it’s that spooky but stays close during a few scenes.
– Playing in the fall leaves and taking advantage of the cool weather walks.
– Playing dress up with costumes like the one she’s wearing above.
– Going to different pumpkin patches! We’ve only been able to make it to two due to the weather but we’ll probably hit up another one before the month is over.
– Eating all the pumpkin and apple cider doughnuts possible and drinking warm apple cider.
– Picking out mums and smelling them every single day.
– Eating lunch outside while sitting on a pumpkin (Laken’s favorite).
I’ve said this quite a few times to Kyler but there’s something about have a little one that makes everyone that much more fun. I can’t wait for our costumes this year and for all the memories we’ll make in all the years to come.
