getting full body curls
Happy Friday!!!
I recently started curling my hair a different way and I am loving it!! I still haven’t posted my everyday curls(what’s new there..haha) but figured big curls are in and you all would love to see this super simple trick.
So, I have to start off by saying if you do not follow Amber Fillerup on Instagram you are missing out. For one, she is absolutely stunning and her family is the cutest, and for two, she literally has the best hairstyles ever!!! She recently did a whole video on curling her hair with paper straws and she absolutely rocked those curls and got a crazy amount of volume and body from them! I like to consider these a more tamed down version of those curls and that they’re a knock-off to the beautiful finger waves. The best part…it’s all done with a curling wand and a simple twist of the wrist! No straws, no clips, no weird tricks. I would say on a scale of 1-5, with five being the hardest, this falls at a 2. It’s a very easy curl to learn with the motion being the only difficult thing in the way. After a few times you’ll have that muscle memory and it’ll be the quickest curl.
To achieve these big curls/waves I’m using the T3 Whirl Trio Interchangeable Barrel Styling Wand. It is my absolute favorite wand and my preferred wand to use on my clients. The wand trio you see in all the pictures is actually my second trio set! I got my first T3 curling wand about five years ago and have used it so much that I was in desperate need for a new one. This wand trio is a littler more on the pricy side being $216, but that includes three wands to choose from and curls that hold for days (literally).
I love that the wand trio comes with three completely different sizes of wands. My favorite of the three is the 1in wand. With this one I’m able to volume and still have a loose curl. Even using the 2in wand you’re able to get some volume and lose curls but the curls will fall out a little quicker throughout the day. Because of how much hair I have I’m not the biggest fan of the tapered wands. I still use that wand but I wouldn’t use it on my whole head. I mainly use it to add some extra curl and texture to my hair when I let my hair go and let my natural curl take over.
Now for the curls themselves I did a whole video for you guys below!!! I go way more in-depth on what I do and explain why I do some of the things I do.
If you don’t want to watch the video here’s a little run down…
I always start in the back of my hair and will take all different sizes of sections. In the back I don’t really pay attention to what direction I’m curling the hair as it’s in the back and it will all blend together. When wrapping the hair always hold your wand facing down. Not only will this give you the ideal angel but it will also help your wrists in the long run. When wrapping the hair around you will do a full wrap around with your palm facing down (probably something you’ll have to pay attention to know lol) and after one wrap you are going to twist your wrist so it’s palm side up! Once your wrist is flipped you’ll do another wrap around again, always flipping your palm up before wrapping again. Once my whole head is curled I’ll wait until the last curl is cooled before running my fingers through it and breaking them up. I’m hoping this makes sense and if it doesn’t probably look into watching the video hahaha.
It’s way easier done than said and I can promise you that! 😉
Here are the two products that I use when I curl my hair.
Here are the tools that I mentioned in the video! You can also buy the wands individually online too!
*I was gifted this T3 Whirl Wand by Beauty Brands but all words are my own.
