Chloe is one! Life update + party deets
My littlest babe is one and as much as I don’t want her to grow up, we’re getting to one of my favorite stages! Chloe is developing such a big personality and loves to be in the middle of it all. If you want to go down memory lane with me, you can check out Chloe’s blog birth announcement here.
Chloe turned one June 16th and we had her party a few days before with close family and it was so nice. Amongst everything going on, it was nice having one little day to forget about it. We celebrated how ‘one’derful turning one is and really just hung out!
I have a hard time sticking to birthday themes and usually end up with just making it all look pretty. It works and that’s what we did for Clo (even though she could care less haha). I love doing balloon arches and they’re actually so much easier than you would think. My biggest advice if you do balloon arches often is to get a balloon air pump. I got this one a few years back and it has made our lives so much easier for parties…and blowing up inflatable pools. They make balloon arch garlands that make putting the actual arch together a literal breeze. One roll took care of 4 birthday parties and a baby shower.
One of my proudest moments is that her cake actually turned out. I didn’t once think about how bakeries wouldn’t be open during the pandemic. I wanted a custom smash cake and a special cookies and that didn’t go to plan. Instead I made our cake from scratch and it somehow turned out perfect. Haha. Our little “ONE-derful” cake topper can be found here and it was the perfect touch! Our high chair skirt was just made of tool and elastic and we stuck flowers in the elastic to make it more full.
As far as the rest of the party decor goes, I try to stick with things that I can use for the next girls’ birthday. Pink, gold, and white are super safe colors for us right now haha. A lot of the decor I don’t have linked below is from Michaels or the Target dollar spot. I really like fresh flowers so I always add those around the house for something nice to look at and I try to make our fireplace look like a home for gifts, hence the ‘one’ balloon. This part is the fun part for me.
It’s been a minute since I’ve done one of these so what’s life like with a now one year old and a three year old?! Well, it’s fun..most of the time and they officially started fighting..which is not so fun. My children are far from perfect. Laken is the biggest sass-hole and Chloe is a big whiner. Social media only shares the perfect parts ;). However, the girls could not be more opposite and that’s what makes it so fun.
I feel like we got lucky with the transition from one to two because Laken was so independent and didn’t care. Like at all. She was fine living in her own little bubble and we were so spoiled by that. Chloe is the total opposite. She wants to touch everything with you holding her hand. She wants to be involved in whatever it is you’re doing and she is attached to me like no other. I know she can sense me and when she does the game is over. Laken wasn’t attached to me so this is all very new to me. Some days I love it and other days I feel suffocated. It’s hard, that’s for sure.
Chloe is starting to figure out how to maneuver her little body out of the high chair and out of the grocery cart. She’s figured out that she can kick her legs out to push away from things, and if you smack something hard enough mid melt down you may just get some extra attention. One thing for sure is that she is incredibly smart and she knows it. Despite that struggles, she is the best cuddle bug and I want her to stay in this phase forever.
Chloe has the best personality. She has a smile on her face almost 90% of the time and loves to give affection. She scrunches her little nose when something is real funny and when she’s nervous she grabs the sides of her diapers. We call her our little pterodactyl because we will walk into a room where it’s dead silence and thereees Chloe… with her 3 second screech haha.
Laken is almost four and has discovered imaginary friends. We have had many melt downs due to leaving a friend behind and I’m learning a lot about this phase. She’s getting so tall, and is the average height of a 5 year old. I find myself constantly having to tell myself “Kendra, give her a break. She’s only 3.” Since she is so independent I struggle daily on making certain limits. Home girl is as girly as girly gets. She would wear a tiara and her Cinderella gloves every day if I let her.
Laken is in preschool and we just got word we won’t be going back until after Labor Day but I know she’s excited. She loves gymnastics and has shown interest in soccer so we might try that out this fall if everything goes to plan. Laken is a literal sponge and is so fascinated by everything. I never know what she’s going to say or do so each day is a big surprise with her haha.
As for Kyler and I, we are fantastic. We’re focusing on our five year plan and we’re very excited to make those dreams happen. I do a pretty good job on keeping us updated via Instagram Stories, so if you don’t follow me, be sure to follow along!
