bobby pin trend + 5 reasons why you should bring that scrunchie back
I have missed talking about hair sooo much and am so happy to finally be out of my funk with it! It’s so crazy to think I get in a funk with my hair but I truly think it’s because I’m a hairstylist and fixing everyone else’s hair makes me never want to touch mine. It gets bad. I’m about six months overdue for a highlight, so let’s try really hard not to notice my two inches of new growth coming in haha.
If you’re an avid Pinterest user or keep up on hair trends/styles, then I am sure you’ve seen the newest craze of using bobby pins as an accessory! I can honestly say at first I wasn’t a huge fan of it because I have grown up with bobby pins always being hidden, and now they’re used like a statement necklace. I’ve played around with it on and off for a few weeks and I LOVE IT!!! I think it’s so cool how creative some of these hair artists have been with deciding how to style the pins. If you go on Pinterest and search hair pin hairstyles you are going to see the most beautiful hair photos.
I’m making it a little more fancy with how I’m styling my hair by using embellished bobby pins. The ones I’m using in the photos are by Kitsch and you can find all their items shown below. This brand is new to me and they are easily becoming a favorite with their cute designs and the fact that they’re comfortable to wear and stay in place all day.
Regarding making the designs, it’s way easier than you think it is! It took me a few times to anchor the pins in to make sure they were flat against my head, and by the third try I felt like a pro. My favorite design is probably the triangle because it’s so different. I mean, how cool is it that these looks are achievable with bobby pins?!
. . .
I say I’m obsessed with a lot of things and I’m fully aware, but when I say I’m obsessed with scrunchies…I mean it. I don’t remember a time there wasn’t a scrunchie in my purse or in my bathroom drawer. In case you don’t believe me, I still wear my leopard print scrunchie that I wore in family pictures when I was 4 (gross? maybe haha). I grew up doing competitive gymnastics and scrunchies were the thing to wear. I have some fully rhinestoned, a ton that are entirely velvet and some in every animal print/color/pattern you could imagine. I am on team #bringscrunchiesback haha! Besides them being a total 90’s thing, there are actually a lot of really good benefits from scrunchies and I’ll be sharing 5 with you all today!
1. Scrunchies help prevent breakage with all the fabric used between the hair and the band acting as a barrier.
2. Scrunchies won’t leave creases in your hair after being worn for a longer period of time. Scrunchies are really good to use for a workout if you have somewhere to go directly after.
3. Scrunchies are ideal for messy buns as they don’t cause breakage/tangle hair like hair ties can.
4. They can be dressed up for style and dressed down for comfort. If you can’t picture them being dressed up Pinterest search celebs wearing scrunchies for inspiration. Hailey Baldwin makes them look the cutest.
5. There are scrunchies made specifically for sleeping in!!! I’m totally guilty of not following this rule, but sleeping with your hair in a messy bun/ponytail is actually the worst thing you could possibly do to your scalp. Since no one will ever follow that rule silk scrunchies came to the rescue. With normal hair ties, the hair has no room to move smashed against a pillow and the tension on your scalp will actually cause your hair to be pulled out. Of course this happens over time, but once hair has been pulled out by force it can’t be undone. Silk scrunchies are equivalent to sleeping on a silk pillow case (kinda). There is zero to little tension on the hair in a pony and the silk is very soft against our strands. I have both kinds listed below!
