If there’s ANYTHING I’ve ever talked about in all the three years I’ve done blogging, the lip flip is by far the most talked about topic. Since getting the lip flip two weeks ago I have received no less than 10 messages a day asking when I would be posting this and then some basic questions. I will share everything with you all in today’s post and then I also have a Q+A down at the bottom for any question you might have! Trust me, I am just as excited to share everything as much as you are to see the before and after photos.
Quick disclaimer: I want to real quickly share that I hope none of you ever feel pressured to get any type of treatment done from my posts. I love trying these treatments and I love being able to share my experience with you all. My goal when sharing topics as controversial as injections is to share my thoughts and talk to you like I would any friend. I genuinely like getting botox and it’s something I will continue to do. I like the results and I like the benefits. As always, please contact your medical spa or speak to a dermatologist to see what would be right for you.
I’ve made it very clear to you all that I would never get lip filler. I just don’t think it’s for me. I really like the shape and size of my lips! While the lip flip is still injections, it gives an entirely different look than what lip filler would. A lip flip is focused on your top lip and more towards the lip line. The whole purpose of a lip flip is to lift the top of your lip just a little bit and give it a little volume…or a more pouty look. It’s EXTREMELY subtle. I actually have the whole process of getting the lip flip done over in the highlights on Instagram! If you want to check them out, head to my page and search for “lip flip” in the highlight bubbles.
Something I learned was that lip flips are typically done with Dysport or Botox. Since I get Dysport in my forehead I figured I would just stick with it. I asked if there’s a big difference and Melody said that it’s like comparing Pepsi to Coke, so just personal preference.
Now, how do I feel about the lip flip?! I FREAKING LOVE IT! It’s the most subtle change and it has done so much for me. I feel like it has transformed how I smile and I love how my lips look. I have always wanted a pouty lip. No reason other than I think it’s cute. I asked Kyler how he feels about it and he said he really didn’t notice a big difference other than than when I smile. My top lip is more noticeable and I feel like my lips are really symmetrical from it. Before, my lips tucked in a little bit when I smiled. I have the photo below for you to see the difference! I have never shared this but I have always disliked how my top lip disappeared when I smile so it being so noticeable now has me smiling all the time. I would be lying if I said I didn’t stop a stare at myself every once in a while haha…
Just like getting Dysport or Botox anywhere else, it’s going to take the full 14 days to set in. I know when I first got Dysport in my forehead I was taking pictures daily because it was so cool seeing it set in. I wanted to capture the same with my lips and you can totally see the change through the pictures as you get to the after. (Just ignore the awful self tanning mistake happening in the last one around my lips haha.)
When getting the actual injections, Melody said she was putting in .5 of a unit and I asked her all about how much you can do and then how little you can do. She said you always want to start off small (don’t forget about the two week follow up that available if you feel you need more) because too much can effect how you use a straw. I will honestly say that I struggled drinking out of a straw while everything was setting in. I can fully drink from a straw now with no issue and don’t ever see myself getting anything more than .5 of a unit. I think if I were to ever feel like I need more I would just go to use filler and forget about the lip flip entirely.
I want to be real with you all here, and I want to talk about the process of the lip flip setting in because it’s something that I slightly freaked out over. It’s a very different feeling and that’s honestly the best way to describe it. Day 1-3 I didn’t really feel a whole lot and then on day 4 I felt like I lost motion of my upper lip. I could still move it but I could feel the Dysport setting it. I knew this wouldn’t be a permanent feeling but I did feel like I had no control over my lip. I had to physically pull my lip down to get it to move at some points. I have full motion of it now, so please don’t freak out with me saying that. It’s just weird!
Would I do this again? Absolutely! I see myself getting this every time I go in to get my Dysport done. I am so incredibly happy with the results. Not to mention, this service is very inexpensive at $75. As many of you know I also got my lips tinted at Aestheticare and having the lip tint with the lip flip really has me loving my lips. I’m so happy with everything.
Who would I recommend this to? From someone who was hesitant in the first place, I would recommend this to anyone that feels the same. If you’re someone that’s interested in lip filler or think that may be the route for you but don’t know if you’ll like it, I would start with this! Maybe what you’re looking for is all in a lip flip!
Does a lip flip help if you have thinner lips? Yes, but it’s very subtle. Most of the time dermal filler is required instead of, or in addition to reach the patients desired end result
How long does it last? A lip flip will last about the same time as Dysport/Botox. Since those muscles are used more it could last a little less.
Can you do more than 1 unit in each place? No, we usually stop at 1 unit per injection site for lip flips. If you are wanting more because you was to see more of a result dermal filler is a better option for you.
Can you do a lip flip on the bottom lip? No. The bottom lip is not treated during a lip flip.
Can you do a lip flip if you have filler? Yes, absolutely!
If I get a lip flip regularly, will it freeze the nerve like Botox does in the forehead? Since we use Dysport or Botox for a lip flip, yes. It’s relaxing the muscle that allows the desired flip!
Will i lose any motion in my lip? You don’t typically lose motion but it will likely feel “weaker” or different.
How is the flip placement chosen? The placement is chosen by our highly trained nursed that are very well educated in facial muscle anatomy and what Botox/Dysport does to those muscles. Each patients anatomy (mouth shape) is also taken into consideration as everyone is different.
