Adding ambiance with Hunter Fan Company
Thank you to Hunter Fan Company for sponsoring this post.
It’s been three years that we’ve been in this home and our family space is where I struggle with wall decor the most. Our home is partially open concept and our family room is an extension of our kitchen. I have always struggled with how to tie the two spaces while still having that separation of the kitchen and the family room. Our family areas has larger walls and what is structurally there isn’t quite centered and the space left to play with doesn’t allow much symmetry. Not that whatever I do has to be balanced, but I do want it to flow. Well, I finally caved and got some art (after returning many others) and came to terms I wanted this space to be cozy and warm. Cue the Gatz 1 Light Wall Sconce from Hunter Fan Company!!
Sconces have always been a big love of mine. In a perfect world I have them in every room of my house. Something about adding focal lighting to a space is so incredibly timeless to me! In this particular case, I didn’t have any electrical ran for actual sconces, but I was determined to make it happen.
Since I’m intentionally not using the electrical components on the Gatz Wall Sconces, I used one of my favorite hacks instead! I popped a rechargeable lightbulb into them that I can control completely from a remote. Seriously the best hack ever!!! If adding a lightbulb without the extra hassle to any space wasn’t already cool enough, these bulbs produce three different types of light. You can quite literally customize every bit of your space. I always opt for the warm light with these bulbs just for that cozy ambiance. (See links below for where to get the rechargeable lightbulbs)
Installation
Gatz 1 Wall Sconce came with the normal install supplies which included a pair of shorter screws. I switched out the longer screws that came attached to the plate to the smaller screws for install. The ground screw (usually green) was actually in the way of the back plate laying flush against the wall, so I did opt to remove it. A laser level definitely isn’t necessary for install but I love using any tool I can to my advantage and it took quit a bit of time off this project.
It’s important for me to add that I did nothing special to the electrical components inside the light. At times it’s for sure easier to just cut the wires and not have to worry about them getting in the way. However, it was important for me to keep those wires as untouched as possible. I know myself pretty well and know that I’ll switch up my mind later down the road and would love to incorporate the sconces somewhere permanently in our home. So, to preserve them I did end up wrapping the ends in electrical tape and also taping the wires to the back of the fixture so they weren’t in the way.
As to why I chose the Gatz 1 Wall Sconce over any other sconce, was purely because of how beautiful the fluted glass shade is. Oh it is just stunning!!! I am an absolute sucker for any sort of texture. Hunter Fan Company is obviously a well known high quality brand, but I’ve also worked with a handful of other brand’s sconces that just don’t compare in quality. From past experiences I’ve had a hard time finding brass/gold sconces that matched in color. Most would arrive with such a wild color variation between the pair and these were an absolute perfect match! I cannot recommend the Gatz 1 Sconces enough or anything from Hunter Fan for that matter alone.
Now, I originally wanted these sconces in our primary bathroom on either side of our mirror. I opted not to based off the fact that I wanted more than just my husband and myself to look at them throughout the day. Hiding such beautiful fixtures is absolute crime in itself! I love mixing metals and the built-ins we have in this space are filled with silver and antique brass. The touch of new brass ties it all together and really added to he space.
