8 beauty items/trends I said I would never give into but now love!
Oh my gosh, this was such a fun post to put together! I know for sure the that I am not the only one that has turned their nose up to a product or a trend and then gave them a try and secretly LOVED IT!!!!! I wouldn’t say that I’m stubborn when it comes to new trends or trying new makeup, but I am for sure super set in my ways to where I don’t really want to venture out to try new things. This is so hypocritical to say since I’m technically following the crowd with trends when it comes to my blog and everyday fashion choices, but falling for a product that everyone else loves is something that I avoid doing! Well, here I am today to prove that I broke out of my ways and fell in love with every single one for these products/trends!
. . .
1 – An Overnight Lip Mask
Lip masks have been around for years. I remember in middle school that Vaseline was the fix all to dry skin and I would literally lather my elbows, knees, feet and lips in it every single night before going to bed. I can’t believe I did that, but it was inexpensive and somewhat worked haha. A few weeks ago I gave in and finally bought an actual overnight lip mask. LIFE CHANGING is really all I have to say about it. I’m beyond pumped to head into the winter with this new goodie of mine to see how plumped my lips stay during their normal chapped months. I’m using the Leneige Overnight Sleep Lip Mask and it was a reasonable $20. For how much product that comes in the jar, I know I will be getting all my moneys worth out of it.
2 – Switching to a natural deodorant
This was literally one of those things that I didn’t want to join because of all the hype. So many times I wish someone would say Kendra, you’re being dumb, get over it, this is a better choice for you body!!! Now here I am saying that if you do not use a natural deodorant, make the switch now. I promise you will love it.
Kyler and I have been living together for a little over three years. Of those years, I’ve been using his Irish Spring deodorant for at least two (I am so gross haha). I can’t do a normal women’s deodorant because they made me smell worse, but at this point I’m not sure which is worse… b.o. or Irish Spring. Anyway, I got tired of always smelling so I gave into the natural deodorant trend and switched to Native deodorant – Vanilla and Coconut. The only caution I would give if switching is being aware that you will (not everybody) have to detox from the previous deodorant. I was one of the fortunate ones that ended up having to deal with the detox smell and it wasn’t terrible but it did last a few days. I’m just now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and it has been worth it every step.
3 – Using an under eye concealer
This will seem like such a silly one to a big majority of you, but I truly thought under eye concealer was a waste of product and completely useless….until I became a mom. I did conceal areas of my face like I was taught when growing up, but I never did the triangles under my eyes or anything really. When I was buying my own makeup I thought it was seriously just a waste of money and I’m pretty sure I went years without it. Now, my favorite is Tarte’s Shape Tape Concealer and it’s an absolute must in my makeup routine.
4 – TooFaced Better Than Sex Mascara
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara was the number one mascara when it launched and because everyone loved it so much I refused to use it! I’m pretty sure I told myself that I hated it and it was terrible just so I wouldn’t use it. Again, I didn’t want to fall into the trend of everyone loving a product and I stayed very far from it for a good two years. I somehow ended up with two tubes over the last year and am beyond obsessed with the length and volume I get from it. I absolutely love this mascara and truly do see it being permanent in my daily routine!
5 – Getting a facial roller
One of the hottest trends over the past year is using a facial roller. There are a few different kinds too! There’s an acupressure facial roller, jade facial roller, cooling facial roller, and the one I have is the UpLift Facial Roller by Nurse Jamie. I want to do a whole separate blog post on facial rollers so I won’t touch base on it too much because they are so crucial to an everyday skincare routine. Go out, get one, thank me later.
6 – Using a hair wand
When hair wands first got popular I was a junior in high school. The tapered hair wand was the most popular and you could tell who was doing it. The wand left a very particular curl pattern in the hair that I wasn’t fond of! It took me three years to give it a go. I assumed I would immediately love it so right off the back I invested in a nice wand (T3 Whirl Trio Styling Wand) that wasn’t tapered, gave it a try, could not for the life of me figure out how to work a wand on myself, and gave up for a few months. I went to try it again and figured out 3 ways to curl my hair all with one wand and got amazing results. I love my wand now and choose it over a normal curling iron. The T3 Whirl Trio Styling Wand that I first started with is still a favorite. I’m on my second set of them I’ve used them so much.
7 – A Pre-cleanse
Micellar water or any type of pre cleanse is the best thing that has ever happened to me in my skin routine. Again, me being a little bit of a snob, I didn’t want to use the Micellar water because I hated how oily it was(which is crazy because I use an oil on my face every day…haha I am ridiculous). What I did find was a Precleanse Balm by Dermalogica that is equally as amazing as micellar water and truly feels like I’ve neglected my face if I don’t use it! The balm still has oil in it which really helps to break up makeup and get all that dead skin off but also doesn’t leave my skin feeling oily before actually washing it.
8 – falling back into the bold liner trend
I picked this trend back up maybe two weeks ago? I cleaned out my makeup collection and found three of my favorite liquid eyeliner (Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner) and I didn’t want to toss them so I decided to pick up doing winged liner again! I go back and forth on this trend because I do love how it looks, but I also really like a natural glam look without a wing. This fall thick, bold liner is predicted to be the in thing. Let’s see how long it lasts!
I’m way more open to trying to new products and trends the more time goes on. I love all these products/trends above so much that I’m actually annoyed with myself for almost missing out on something that like. What are some of the trends that you told yourself you’d never do and now love?!
