My Favorite Dry Shampoos
Dry shampoo is the most amazing hair product to have ever been invented!!! Sometimes I wonder how I managed to go three days with greasy hair & be okay with it. Now I can go about a week/week & a half without washing my hair ( I still shower guys). I truly dread washing my hair because of how long it takes & because of how much I have. So, to make things simpler & to add about an hour more to my day I’ll skip washing my hair & go straight to the dry shampoo!
I always have at least a dozen cans in stock under my bathroom cabinet. I’m not super picky when it comes to which dry shampoo is the best because I think every single one has its perks. I do have my favorites though! I was going to talk about my top ten favorites but thought that might be a little overwhelming so I’ll be talking about my top five favorites along with some good drug store ones! Let me just say narrowing it down was hard because I don’t have an absolute favorite dry shampoo. The top five are the ones that I tend to gravitate to most!
If you don’t know what dry shampoo is you have no idea what you’re missing out on! So, dry shampoo is a powdered “shampoo” that helps absorb excess oil/prevents oil from building up on the scalp. Dry shampoo was initially made to extend hair to be styled for 2-3 days before having to actually shampoo again. Dry shampoo works really well with wanting to extend a specialty style (curls) or to add a little extra texture & body. Dry shampoo isn’t a hairspray so it wont give any extra hold or protect the hair, so a heat & hairspray is still a must!
Dry shampoos work differently on different types of scalps. Here are a few tips to help:
- If you have oily/greasy scalp & need to shower every day start using dry shampoo on a night where you don’t have anything to do the next day! Since your hair is so used to over producing oil it will take some time to train your scalp to not produce oil. The longer you go between washing your hair the less oil your scalp will produce. (Trust me! I was one that person that had to wash my hair every day so I totally get what you’re thinking!) Start by putting the dry shampoo at your roots, down your part line, around your hair-line, & finally in sections. Use your fingers to really work the dry shampoo in & then sleep on it! Using the dry shampoo at night will help prevent oils that normally produce overnight to decrease production after each use! In the morning add dry shampoo as desired!
- If you have a normal scalp the use of dry shampoo would be in the morning before styling or starting your day instead of at night. Sometimes the need of dry shampoo isn’t until actual day 2 or day 3 hair. Your hair will most likely last the longest between washes if using dry shampoo daily in moderation! Start by putting the dry shampoo down your part line & the back of crown area. If need be you can also spray some down sections if you feel you’re extra oily there.
- If you have a dry scalp dry shampoo will still work for you! The only thing you will want to watch out for is over using a product. Just like your hands or arms, if you’re really dry a powder is probably the last thing you want to be rubbing all over them, right? Same with the scalp! you’re probably able to get away with not having to use dry shampoo until you’ve reached day 3 hair! If that’s the case focus on using the dry shampoo just down your part line to avoid any type of irritation!
NOW TO THE DRY SHAMPOO……
My top 5
1 . Klorane Dry Shampoo – this is a more of a natural dry shampoo. They all contain oat milk which is super soothing for the scalp. Now this part doesn’t bother me but it does leave some residue behind! Since I am blonde I like that the powder gives the illusion that my roots aren’t as bad as I think they are. This would be perfect for all you dry scalp ladies & gents.
2 . Moroccan Oil Dry Shampoo – this dry shampoo is more beneficial to someone who colors their hair personally because they have the different tones!. They have the dark tones & the light tones. The dark tones benefits brunettes or darker colored hair, shooting out a brown colored powder as opposed to white. The light tones benefits blondes! The powder comes out purple which helps tone the hair as it absorbs all the oil.
3. Living Proof Dry Shampoo – This particular dry shampoo has been raved about everywhere. There is absolutely no white residue left behind & the smell sells itself. I have noticed that this particularly dry shampoo does have a little bit of grip to it! I wouldn’t go as far as to say that it will hold your hair like a hairspray, but I can definitely see it helping. If you aren’t familiar with Living Proof Products you should definitely check out their line! They’re known for doing exactly what their products say they’ll do.
4. Blow Pro Dry Shampoo – Non Aerosol – This is my favorite non-aerosol dry shampoo. You definitely get more for your money by getting that pure powder for close to the same price. I would recommend this dry shampoo to someone who is more advanced with powders! know that sounds so silly but you’ll have a better understanding of how much to use. If you’re brave enough to try this product right away then this would be perfect for the one with extremely greasy scalp.
5. Not Your Mothers Clean Freak – original Dry Shampoo – Throwing in a drug store dry shampoo for you! This takes the lead when it comes to doing what it’s supposed to do, but I will say it doesn’t contain the best sent. (It legit smells like grass.) You can’t really beat a good drug store dry shampoo though for only $7.
